Let’s take a look…
1. Create simple designs for your print-on-demand ornaments
Here are some tips about how to winning create designs for your print-on-demand Christmas ornaments:
Keep your ornament designs simple.
With most POD products, including ornaments, simple designs work best. I recommend not using too many colors, fonts, or graphics in your designs. If you include too many design elements, your ornament designs may look confusing and cluttered to shoppers.
I suggest sticking to simple, text-based designs using a single black font. That way, your ornament designs are clean and clear, and they are more likely to have universal appeal.
Here are some examples of best-selling ornaments from Amazon featuring simple, mostly text designs:
If you DO use images with your designs, make sure they’re high-quality.
As I said above, simple, text-based designs work best. But if you want to include images with some of your designs, the images need to be high-quality. Make sure all your images are clear and high-resolution. Low-quality images can make your ornaments look unprofessional. Plus, they may lead to fewer sales.
You can find great holiday flourishes to add to your designs on Canva. Go into the Elements section on the left-hand side and type a keyword related to your design into the search bar. You’ll find…
- Graphics
- Photos
- Shapes
- Frames
- And more
Any element that doesn’t have a crown icon beside it is free to use.
Don’t limit your designs to only those related to Christmas.
Your Christmas ornament designs don’t have to relate only to Christmas. People buy ornaments year-round as gifts for all different kinds of special events and occasions, including…
- Weddings
- Engagements
- Baby showers
- Birthdays
- Anniversaries
- Graduations
- Commemorations for special vacations
- Special people, such as parents, grandparents, children, significant others, friends, co-workers, et cetera
Here are some examples from Etsy:
Let customers personalize your ornaments.
Shoppers on every platform love being able to personalize products. But this is especially true with Etsy shoppers. When you let customers personalize your products, you let them create something unique and special.
With almost any design you create, you can give customers a personalization option. You can let customers add…
- text (e.g. their name or a meaningful date)
- photos
- artwork
Providing the option to personalize your products also helps you stand out from the competition.

2. Optimize your ornament listings on Amazon and Etsy
Here are some tips about how to optimize your Amazon and Etsy Christmas ornament listings:
Write clear, keyword-rich titles for your best print-on-demand ornaments.
Use descriptive and relevant keywords with your ornament listings. But don’t overload your titles with too many keywords (also known as “keyword stuffing”). Instead, include descriptive words like “ceramic” and “round” that accurately describe your print-on-demand ornaments. Your titles should always be clear and easy to understand.
To find the best keywords for your ornaments, you can use the following tools:
You can also use the Amazon and Etsy search bar to quickly find relevant keywords. Here are some examples:
Write detailed descriptions about your print-on-demand ornaments.
Be sure to mention the most important details about your print-on-demand ornaments in their descriptions. These details include…
- Single-sided or double-sided
- Round, square, oval, heart-shaped
- Ceramic
- White gift box with a transparent lid
Get inside your customers’ heads. What questions might they have about print-on-demand Christmas ornaments? Then, answer those questions in your descriptions. You can also use AI tools, like ChatGPT, to create your ornament descriptions.
You can learn more about how that process works here. And you can learn more about what you should include in your CustomHappy print on demand ornament descriptions here.
Use high-quality lifestyle images in your Christmas ornament listings.
In your ornaments’ listings on Amazon and Etsy, include images that show your ornaments in use. These photos are called lifestyle images, and they help shoppers visualize what it would be like to own your ornaments.
You could include an image of someone placing your ornament on a Christmas tree. Or you could add an image of someone opening your ornament from a gift box. (You can access my free ornament lifestyle mockups below.)
Price your print-on-demand ornaments competitively.
When pricing your Christmas ornaments, you need to take several factors into consideration:
- Base cost
- Shipping
- Any fees or commissions associated with the selling platforms
These factors can make pricing your products confusing. To help you keep track of these costs and optimize your profits, you can use my Etsy Profit Calculator. To access this free tool and learn more about how it works, click here.
3. Always provide professional customer service when you sell ornaments on Amazon and Etsy
Building a successful online store requires prioritizing top-tier customer service. Catering to customers’ high expectations by providing top-notch support fosters loyalty. Plus, it generates positive word-of-mouth marketing.
The key to achieving exceptional customer service lies in attentiveness, responsiveness, and empathy. You need to provide polite and prompt responses, with a commitment to a 24-hour message turnaround.
Your response time can be enhanced by using customer service scripts for common queries. This tactic optimizes time and effort and streamlines the customer service process. To access my collection of customer service scripts, click here.
Providing great customer service can also pave the way for earning the Etsy Star Seller badge, which can help drive more sales. 4. Offer discounts and run promotions for your print-on-demand ornaments
To attract more customers and boost sales, it’s a good idea to offer discounts and run promotions on your ornaments. Discounts and promotions incentivize shoppers to choose your print-on-demand ornaments over your competitors’. Discounts and promotions are especially useful around special occasions or sales events, such as…
- Gift-giving holidays (Christmas, Hanukkah, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, etc.)
- Wedding season
- Back-to-school season
- Amazon Prime Day
- Black Friday
- Cyber Monday
Offering discounts and promotions can also help you move slow-selling products and reduce excess inventory. You can learn more about how to set up discounts and coupon codes on Amazon and Etsy here.
5. Promote your print-on-demand ornaments
Here are some ways that you can promote your print-on-demand ornaments to drive traffic and sales.
Promote your print-on-demand Christmas ornaments on social media platforms.
Use popular social media platforms like the following to highlight your best print-on-demand ornaments:
- TikTok
- YouTube
Make sure your social media posts include high-quality images and relevant hashtags. That way, you can reach a larger audience. (You’ll find a list of relevant hashtags to include in your content below.)
Promote your ornaments through influencer marketing.
Go to your preferred social media platform and look for influencers. Influencers are people with large, engaged followings in your ornaments’ niches. Offer to send free ornaments to these influencers in exchange for having them post content about your ornaments to their followers.
You could suggest they create an unboxing video. Or you could ask them to simply post an image of your ornament with a link to your store. Make sure to give the influencers all the information they need about your ornaments. That way, you make the process as easy as possible and a no-brainer for them.
