Creating and promoting designs around specific occasions and events is an effective strategy that really works to boost your sales.

Case in point: in 2017, when the total solar eclipse was happening in the U.S., a number of LHS people decided to make designs about the event, and they had a good amount of success. For some people, sales continued coming in even after the total eclipse had ended.

Given the success people had with eclipse-related designs, one of the group’s moderators made the following comment, which is actually what inspired me to create this blog post. :-)

I didn’t want to just talk about the anniversary of the moon landing, though. So I dug in and found a few other cool anniversaries happening this year.

Plus, another LHS’er posted the following chart in the FB group, which shows some of the main holidays, events, and seasons, and the timing when people are most actively pinning about them on Pinterest.

You can use these timelines to help guide your design creation and promotions throughout the year.

NOTE: Mentioning special events is a good marketing strategy for any items you sell. This strategy doesn’t have to apply just to mugs. It can apply to t-shirts, shot glasses, pillowcases, and any other items you sell since customers do respond.

75th anniversary of D-Day 

The first day of the Invasion of Normandy, known as D-Day, happened on June 6, 1944, making this year the 75th anniversary.

Stonewall Inn’s 50th anniversary 

Stonewall Inn in New York City is the site of the Stonewall riots, which happened on June 28, 1969, and are largely considered to be what sparked the LGBTQ liberation movement.

100th anniversary of the 19th amendment 

After decades of trying to pass a women’s suffrage amendment to the U.S. Constitution, the 19th amendment, which prohibits the government from denying people the right to vote on the basis of sex, was finally passed by the House of Representatives on May 21, 1919 and by the Senate on June 4, 1919.

Design ideas for this anniversary include anything having to do with women’s rights and empowerment, inclusivity, and feminism.

Woodstock was a 3-day long music festival that was held over the summer of 1969 in Bethel, New York. The concert was billed as “An Aquarian Exposition: 3 Days of Peace & Music.”
